  • December 15, 2008
Social mapping service Loopt is extending its free software to Google's Android Market, the search giant's mobile application store. The offering includes core Loopt features such as background location updating, allowing users to receive alerts when their friends are nearby.

Loopt users can now share their location with other users across carrier networks including AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile USA and Boost Mobile and more than 100 handsets including iPhone and BlackBerry devices.

In addition to mobile devices, Loopt users can now also share their location information on social networking services like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, as well as on personal blogs and Web sites.--Mark Walsh
