Burger King Kills Whopper Sacrifice Campaign

Burger King has pulled its Whopper Sacrifice campaign from Facebook after the social network blocked a feature of its application on the site notifying members when they had been "sacrified" for a Whopper. The popular promotion launched last week allowed people to delete 10 friends on Facebook in exchange for a coupon for a free Whopper.

In a statement released today, Burger King said: "While Facebook was a great sport, they did ask for changes that would have resulted in a different approach to our application, counter to what we developed. Ultimately, based on philosophical differences, we decided to conclude the campaign and chose to 'sacrifice' the application."

Facebook had said the notification feature of the Burger King application violated its privacy rules. Members are not normally informed when they are removed from friend lists on the social network.
