TV shows have cause to rejoice. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is upping the number of nominees permitted in 10 major categories for the prime-time Emmy Awards, reports
Variety. The
academy will choose six nominees--rather than five--in key categories, such as outstanding comedy and drama programs, lead actor and actress in a comedy and drama series, and supporting actor and
actress in a comedy and drama series. Also, ATAS is doing away with blue-ribbon panels to streamline the nomination process. Now, the academy's voting body--the membership--will directly nominate. >
