Storyz Beta-Launches Mobile Media-Sharing Service

  • February 25, 2009
Motorola-backed startup Storyz has launched a beta version of its service allowing people to share text, photos and videos on a single platform that spans the Web, online social networks and mobile devices including the iPhone and Android-powered handsets.

For brands, Sydney, Australia-based Storyz promises to create word-of-mouth buzz around campaigns that reach users in a relevant, organic way. Advertisers can run branded entertainment contests offering prizes for distribution and creativity, from celebrity look-a-like competitions to personal anecdotes involving travel or lifestyle brands.

The Storyz platform will ultimately work with any mobile device and integrates camera, contact list and file system data so users can access photos saved to a mobile device or add a new one. Threaded conversations let users keep track of ongoing discussions among close friends while also allowing broader interaction with other users. The company is funded by Motorola Ventures and private investors in Japan.--Mark Walsh
