Ed:Blog: Interns of the Year?

The day we announced the honorees of OMMA magazine's 2009 Agency of the Year Awards, an intern at R/GA, which we selected as Agency of the Year, tweeted "Does this make us interns of the year?"

Now, a case could be made that the "Interns of the Year" is a logical extension of AOY, though we'd never thought to make such a designation. However, if we did this year it might have to go to interns of Crispin Porter + Bogusky. Famously, and to some heckling, CPB auctioned the services of its interns to the highest bidder on eBay. The lucky winner, Brammo, makers of electric motorcycles, got a team of 40 CPB interns working on its account.

The CPB junior league took the assignment to heart, creating a YouTube channel and a brainstorming blog to document their work. A survey of the videos, though, could make one reconsider any such intern award, including, as they do, lots of singing, a few musical interludes, conference room squabbling and a round of "intern golf." Most of all, though, the videos featuring the highly self-aware deconstructed inner workings of an ad agency make us look forward to the forthcoming reality show set in an agency a world away from Boulder.

That's right; we'll be keeping our eyes on the MTV show Hired, which will chronicle the application process for the position of associate product strategist at Brooklyn-based Huge. What we're really hoping for is a sort of mash-up between The Apprentice and Jersey Shore with Huge ECD Dave Skokna getting into a slap fight with some teased-hair mall rat and flackster extraordinaire (and former MediaPoster) Tom Siebert separating them before things get uglier than the Meat Packing District on a Saturday night.
