Geri Wang, the head of prime-time
sales at ABC for nearly a decade, has been named to the network's top sales post, replacing Mike Shaw.
Shaw announced his intention to move on in late November, but said he would stay on as
an advisor for an undetermined period. Wang's promotion to president of sales and marketing comes as ABC plans its upfront presentation and sales strategy for the annual bazaar.
Her role also
includes oversight of Disney/ABC Unlimited, a unit focusing on crafting deals spanning multiple Disney properties, cable outlet SOAPnet and ABC's expanding online initiatives.
Wang had been
senior vice president of prime-time sales at ABC since 2000. In her new role, she will report to Anne Sweeney, who oversees ABC as a top Disney executive.
Shaw had held the chief sales post
over the same decade as Wang ran prime time. Sweeney stated that Wang "has developed the skills and relationships necessary to ensure that value is fully recognized by the marketplace."
Wang
joined ABC in 1990 and has held roles encompassing most network dayparts over the past 20 years, starting in daytime.
