Goldstein Exits GroupM To Form Consulting Firm

Marc Goldstein

Marc Goldstein, the head of GroupM North America and one of Madison Avenue's most knowledgeable pros in the TV buying business, is starting his own consulting firm. An initial client: GroupM.

He is leaving the WPP Group umbrella media operation at the end of the month and launching Marc Goldstein Media Solutions, with the Association of National Advertisers also a client.

Now segueing into a senior advisor role, he stated that he's eager to continue working with colleagues at GroupM; as North American CEO he is very close to worldwide head Irwin Gottlieb.

After 30 years in media, Goldstein stated he will be using his "unique perspective on the current media and advertising marketplace ... (to) provide insights stemming from my rich and varied experiences with national advertisers and media companies."

His new GroupM role includes working on strategy and media buying for the holding company within WPP, which also includes Maxus, MEC, MediaCom, and Mindshare.

At the ANA, he will be involved with the Alliance for Family Entertainment Committee, which has a membership of about 40 big-spending advertisers that seeds development of shows that offer multi-generational viewing and support networks that air them.

Goldstein has served on the Alliance for Family's executive committee and now will serve in a liaison role with content developers.

The executive took over leadership of GroupM in the U.S. and Canada two years ago, after serving as chief of Mindshare in North America for five years.

Previous experience includes managing General Motors' national broadcast buying, and a top role in TV buying at Lintas.
