UnivisionNoticias.com, the digital presence of the Spanish-language cable station Univision, saw traffic spike to record levels with its gavel-to-gavel coverage of the miners being rescued in
Chile. The site ran prominent non-stop live-streaming video of the rescue, and as a result the average duration of a visit reached nearly 20 minutes (19:49) Wednesday. This was up from the record
13:31 set Tuesday. The previous high for an average visit had been 6:47.
Wednesday's traffic hit 2.6 million page views, according to internal data. And per Akami, simultaneous streams of
the live coverage peaked at 10,000 late Tuesday, while the number hovered between 8,000 and 9,000 Wednesday as the extraction wore on.
The mobile site, Univision Móvil, finished the day
Wednesday with 1.7 million unique visits and 2.7 million page views, a close second to the record for the mobile site of 2.9 million views set on the first day of this year's World Cup. The mobile
numbers, per MIA, Quattro and July Systems, include only WAP traffic and not app usage.
Combined, Univision Interactive Media delivered over 12.2 million total pages across 2 million visits on
Wednesday. Two-day totals during the rescue were 23.3 million total pages across 3.7 million visits.
