Walmart, Goodwill Team To Help Single Moms

Walmart Foundation says it is giving $2.5 million to Goodwill, to create a "Beyond Jobs" program for single moms in Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles County, Detroit, and New York City, through 2012.

The funding has already assisted single mothers with job training and placement at select locations.

The program also provides individual advice for job retention, promotion, and financial stability.

The company says that the unemployment rate among single mothers is 12.3%, a record high. Currently, 26% of all children live in families headed by single mothers.
