'NCIS' Leads Tuesdays, 'Glee' Gaining

NCIS

CBS just edged out Fox on Tuesday night -- as its tag team of "NCIS" and "NCIS: Los Angeles" kicked up their respective ratings versus a week ago.

Nielsen preliminary numbers gave CBS two-tenths of a rating point win over Fox -- 3.4/9 to a 3.2/9. Both "NCIS" shows were up over 20% versus a week before. "NCIS" scored a night-leading 4.4/12; "NCIS: Los Angeles" earned a strong 3.9/10.

Where did this leave Fox's big "Glee"? It was just one-tenth of a rating point behind "NCIS" at a 4.3/12, giving CBS its first win against the youth-grabbing song-filled drama. Still, Fox's "Glee" was up 2% versus a week before. And against younger 18-34 numbers, "Glee" put Fox way ahead of CBS' numbers -- almost double at a 3.4/11 for Fox, versus a 2.0/6 for CBS.

Buried behind these headlines, Fox had other reasons to cheer. Both its new sitcoms this year -- which follow "Glee" -- had gains of 15% to 20%: "Raising Hope" was up 14% to a 2.5/7 in adults 18- 49; "Traffic Light" was 21% higher to a 1.7/4.

If there was one downside for CBS -- and a ray of light for NBC -- it came at the 10 p.m. hour. CBS' "The Good Wife" -- the recent 10 p.m. leader on Tuesday -- lost some rating points to a series-low 1.9/5, bested by NBC's "Parenthood," which landed a 2.1/6, up over 10% versus the week before.

Earlier in the evening, NBC was at a 2.7/7 for "Biggest Loser: Couples," on par with recent airings. All this put NBC in third place at a 2.5/7. Next -- and farther down the list -- was more trouble for ABC. "No Ordinary Family" was down a bit to a 1.4/4; "V" was steady at a 1.9/5. Only "ABC Primetime: "What Would You Do?" did a bit better than "Detroit 1-8-7", but it was nothing to write home about, reaching only a 1.4/4.

ABC took a 1.5/4 for the night; Univision did a bit better, at a 1.6/4. CW had slightly better efforts from "One Tree Hill" and "Hellcats." "Hill" climbed 13% among the 18-49 audience to a 0.8/2, while remaining steady in total viewers with 1.6 million viewers and a 0.9/3 among 18-34 viewers. "Hellcats" grew 12% among 18-34 viewers -- at a 0.9/3 -- but didn't move among its more key women 18-34 audience, at 1.2/3, as well as a 0.6/2 for 18-49 viewers. For the night, CW earned a 0.8/3 for 18-49 and a 0.8/2 for 18-34 viewers.
