Looking to make it easier for prospective fans to share more entertainment assets -- and boost its word-of-mouth marketing -- Paramount Pictures says it has made the first deal to distribute a movie trailer on social-media site Twitter.
The trailer from the "Super 8" movie by writer/director J.J. Abrams was released on Twitter on Friday. The deal creates a new quicker, and easier, way for movie fans to access and share movie trailers.
Part of modern film marketing comes with the early release of highly anticipated trailers -- all to generate early and key word-of-mouth marketing. Movie studios typically release trailers on specific entertainment sites, and fans are encouraged to act like marketing ambassadors.
Fans can visit Twitter.com/Super8Movie to get the first look at the trailer and use #Super8Movie to share information about the movie with friends. Paramount is also syncing its Twitter account with Facebook to connect the conversation between the two social-media platforms.

"With Twitter, fans are able to foster a real-time conversation in a communal viewing environment, and we wanted people everywhere to have the chance to discover the "Super 8" trailer here first," stated Amy Powell, executive vice president of interactive marketing strategies & film production for Paramount.
The movie, produced by Steven Spielberg, opens on June 10.
