Nearly one in three "family/party-sized" frozen meals labeled as having four-plus servings are actually consumed by only one or two people, according to a nationally representative survey of adults
conducted by The NPD Group, included in a new report on frozen food trends.
In addition, more than one-quarter of frozen meal users eating from a package labeled as including two to three
servings eat the full package by themselves.
The disconnect isn't winning fans among some consumers. NPD found that males, younger users and even current non-users are dissatisfied with frozen
meals because they consider the serving sizes too small.
Single-serve meals, which account for two of every three frozen meals consumed, are popular as carried lunches with young, working
females and as at-home meals among seniors.
