Beam Inc. (Deerfield, Ill.) has announced an all-cash, $600-million deal to acquire Pinnancle vodka and rum brand Calico Jack from White Rock Distilleries.
White Rock (Lewiston, Maine) is a privately-owned company with a portfolio of about 50 beverages, including Epic vodka.
These are the latest in a series of recent acquisitions by Beam, which was spun off when Fortune Brands Inc. split into two companies last year. It acquired the Skinnygirl brand in 2011, and earlier this year acquired Irish whiskey maker Cooley Distillery.
The Pinnacle brand includes 30 flavors ranging from citrus and coconut to cotton candy, reported the Wall Street Journal, noting that flavored vodkas are one of the fastest-growing alcoholic-beverages categories in the U.S., now accounting for more than one-quarter of all top-brand vodka sales.
Beam's key brands include Jim Beam and Maker's Mark bourbons, Sauza tequila, and Courvoisier cognac.
