Meredith's MXM Taps Macleod As SVP/GM

Jack-Macleod-AFirming up its social strategy, Meredith Xcelerated Marketing has officially named Jack Macleod as SVP and general manager of its Social Practice.

Meredith Corp.’s customer engagement agency MXM services some revered brands, including Lowe’s, Kraft and Chrysler.

In this new role, Macleod will be responsible for setting the strategic vision for MXM’s Social Practice and leading the teams responsible for its development and execution.

Macleod said the first order of business was to refocus MXM’s social practice “to capitalize on strength of skill sets around the country.” This, he said, “will involve growing our teams around the country at our offices in LA, Arlington, Detroit, and NY, where we have significant concentrations of clients.”

Next up will be significant product development, which Macleod said will involve so-called “big data” social media analytics and insights. “Brands are central to the equation. From a client perspective, brand marketers struggle to remain relevant to their customers in today's fragmented and increasingly complex media environment," he said.

"Finding the right things to say, and listening to what customers are saying about brands to increase engagement with brands, is our primary area of focus. That dialogue is conducted through content, and finding the right mix of original branded content, curated brand content, and user-generated content," he added.

Regarding MXM's broader social ambitions, Macleod said the unit is focused on social CRM.

Prior to serving as interim general manager, Macleod served as VP of sales, where he was credited with leading the social practice’s expansion.

In recent years, MXM has sought to bolster its services through the acquisition of sector specialists, including The Hyperfactory (mobile), Genex (digital), New Media Strategies (social media), Directive (database analytics) and BIG Communications (healthcare). Most recently, in October 2011, MXM announced a strategic investment in London-based marketing agency iris worldwide.

MXM currently claims more than 700 employees, and some 50 brand clients. .
