Advertising Age's Simon Dumenco briefly eulogizes Newsweek, which just published its last print
edition ever. Check out the shot of the amazingly historic first cover, published in 1933 and featuring photos of Stalin, FDR and Nazi soldiers. As Dumenco suggests, for more perspective read the
pub's own oral history, compiled by Andrew Romano. It's long -- we only checked out the
first page -- but there's fascinating stuff here, as with this quote summing up the magazine before it was bought by Phil and Katherine Graham: "Newsweek was a shambles. The whole staff was
shot through with drunks, incompetents, and hacks."
