NBC Looks To Past Stars For Laughs

You could say NBC is going back to the future. The network is calling on a pair of alums in Michael J. Fox (“Family Ties”) and Sean Hayes (“Will & Grace”) to headline Thursday comedies in the fall.

“The Michael J. Fox Show” has Fox playing a news anchor making a return after quitting to spend more time with his family after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. It will follow “Sean Saves The World,” which has Hayes playing a divorced gay dad with demands ranging from work to a teenage daughter, who moves in. (Hayes had a cameo on “Smash on NBC this spring.)

The Thursday at 10 p.m. slot will be held by “Parenthood” as NBC moves a reliable show into the position. Other returning dramas include first-year success “Revolution” and “Chicago Fire.”

On Mondays, “The Voice” will air from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and act as a lead-in for new drama “The Blacklist,” which stars James Spader as a former government operative who becomes a wanted fugitive.

“Chicago Fire” is moving to Tuesdays as NBC looks to take advantage of “The Voice” as a lead-in there.

“Law & Order: SVU” will return on Wednesdays at 9 p.m., leading into new drama “Ironside,” about NYPD detective Robert Ironside.

“Welcome to the Family,” about a pair of married teenagers, is a third new comedy on Thursdays. “Dracula” is a third new fall drama, coming Fridays at 10 p.m.

NBC will use the Olympics in February to launch new series such “Believe” from J.J. Abrams and has ordered “Chicago PD,” a “Chicago Fire” spinoff.
