
Two of the
most storied teams brands in the National Hockey League --the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins -- rocketed NBC to more than double its ratings in game one of the Stanley Cup final versus a year
ago.
Nielsen preliminary results were at a 2.4 rating/7 share among 18-49 viewers, tallying 6.4 million viewers overall for the first game between two or the “original” six NHL
teams. A year ago, the first game of the Stanley Cup Finals only got to a 1.0 rating -- a contest between the Los Angeles Kings-New Jersey Devils, teams which were a part of the NHL’s
expansion.
The second- and third-best shows came from cooking-reality competition “MasterChef” at Fox. For its 8 p.m. showing, it earned a 2.2/6 and 5.2 million overall viewers,
and then for its 9 p.m. show, took in a 2.4/7 and 6.0 million viewers.
CBS witnessed improvement from its “American Baking Competition” show at 8 p.m., a 1.2/4 and 5.9 million
overall viewers. A week ago the show earned a 1.1 rating.
On ABC, summer-start comedy “Family Tools” was at a series: low 0.9/3 and 3.7 million viewers overall. Another comedy
that started up midseason, “How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life), checked in with a 1.2/3 and 4.3 million overall viewers, down from a 1.3 rating a week ago. ABC’s
news-oriented show “The Lookout” at 10 p.m. was at a 1.1 rating.
For the night, NBC just edged out Fox with a 2.4/7 among 18-49 viewers to Fox’s 2.3/7. Univision was next
at a 1.4/4; followed by CBS at 1.2/4; ABC with 1.1/3; and CW at a 0.3/1. Total viewers had CBS in the lead with 6.44 million, followed by NBC at 6.42 million; Fox with 5.6 million; Univision at 3.6
million; ABC with 4.0 million; and CW at 1.2 million
