Ellen DeGeneres Returns As Oscar Host

Ellen is back and looking to keep the momentum going. Talk-show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres will host the Oscars next year for the second time.

DeGeneres takes the role after an 11% rating increase among 18- to-49-year-olds last year by one metric. Still, there are always suggestions that the movies being honored have a lot to do with ratings, perhaps more than the appeal of the host.

DeGeneres last hosted the award in 2007. But her presence was felt in 2012, as she appeared in a series of ads for JCPenney during the broadcast.

“I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time, you know what they say -- the third time's the charm," DeGeneres wagged in a statement. In 2007, DeGeneres was host and nominee for the Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program award.

The Oscars is often referred to as the Super Bowl For Women regarding the advertising. Ace Metrix found in the 2013 broadcast that the advertisers with the most success by one metric were Hyundai, Sprint, McDonald’s, Coke and Penney.

DeGeneres’ daytime talk show has been on for 10 seasons.
