Acorn Media Group Releases 'Blandings' Series

P.G. Wodehouse is a beloved British author and his 95 books have been the subject of numerous plays, Hollywood movies and TV shows. His most famous creations -- Bertie Wooster and his gentleman's gentleman, Jeeves, has scored fans on both sides of the Atlantic. But his Blandings sagas, featuring the eccentric and dimwitted aristocrat Lord Emsworth, who meekly reins at the bucolic Blandings Castle, have been absent from television since the 1960s.

ITV Studios in England has corrected this oversight, assembling an all-star cast of actors to fill the key roles in the celebrated stories.

Timothy Spall ("The King's Speech") stars as the absent-minded Emsworth and Jennifer Saunders ("Absolutely Fabulous") is perfectly cast as his imperious sister, Connie. Rounding out the cast is Mark Williams (Ron Weasley of "Harry Potter") as the butler Beach and Jack Farthing ("Poirot") as Emsworth's dippy son Frederick. The production is first-rate -- both in its comic performances and stylized art direction.

Acorn Media Group is giving American audiences the chance to revisit this zany crew via DVDs, at retailers or AcornOnline.com. The Series 1 two-disc, six-episode set includes some of the most endearing stories in the Blandings canon, including "Pig-hoo-o-o-o-ey" and "Lord Emsworth and the Girl Friend."

RJL Entertainment is the parent of Acorn Media Group. The company's 2013 releases include "Jack Irish" starring Guy Pearce, "The Fall" starring Gillian Anderson of "X-Files" and "Prime Suspect," which introduced Helen Mirren to U.S. audiences
