Sharp Looking for 'Amazing' Ultra Videos

Sharp Electronics is sponsoring the ”Art of Amazing 4K Film Competition,” working with THX and RED, it is announcing today, inviting indy filmmakers to show off 4K resolution by creating films, less than four minutes long, that will be judged in a contest.

Sharp says it’s looking for literally, “amazing” video which is describes as “the impeccable interaction of energy, light and scale” and in more precise prose in the full contest application. Submissions will be accepted through Nov. 8.

The contest, not coincidentally, follows the introduction of a new 70-inch Sharp “Ultra HD” set.

The Consumer Electronics Association’s U.S. Consumer Electronics Sales and Forecast July 2013 report projects 57,000 Ultra HD TV will be shipped in 2013, and 1 million by 2015.  Ultra HD deliver a more realistic 2D experiencewith what manufacturers tout  are deeper colors with higher resolution, and “glasses-free” 3D viewing.

Four finalists will be selected by Sharp, THX and RED. Each finalist will receive a trip to the Shot on RED Film Festival in Hollywood on Dec. 4-5 and 5, where their film will be screened and the winner will be announced.  The winner gets an Ultra TV, worth about $7,500 and a trip to the CES show next January, where the video will be shown, over and over, in Sharp’s  booth.
