Foursquare Adds Analytics Tools For Publishers

Foursquare on Wednesday rolled out new tools for publishers that give them more insight on places popular with their followers and which of their “tips” on the social location app are resonating. In the upgraded Foursquare dashboard, publishers can now see a list of the top places people who have "Liked" their Foursquare pages have checked into over the last 30 days.

Potentially, publishers could use that information to generate or inform advertising on their own Web sites or print publications. A screenshot of Time Out New York’s dashboard in a Foursquare blog post today showed the Barclay’s Center (home of the Brooklyn Nets), the Dumbo Art Festival, and the Atlantic Antic drew the most check-ins recently. The top 10 list also included Trader Joes, Target and Ikea.

Publishers can also sort top check-ins by category as well as individual venues within cities. In addition, the Foursquare dashboard now also lets publishers see which tips they posted to the site attracted the most views in the last 30 days. Knowing what type of content is proving popular could guide future tips and indirectly help Foursquare boost engagement.

Besides Time Out New York, other publishers with a presence on Foursquare include The New Yorker, ESPN, The Wall Street Journal, and The History Channel.
