AdRoll Rolls On, Acquires Second Company In Userfox

Retargeting platform AdRoll on Thursday announced it has acquired userfox, a Y Combinator-backed start-up that offers user retention-as-a-service via email. This is AdRoll’s second acquisition; the first being data analytics startup Bitdeli in June 2013.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Userfox is a San Francisco-based company that was founded in 2012 by Peter Clark and Cesar Alaniz. The company claims to send over 2 million emails per month to thousands of customers. In addition to retention-based emails, userfox offers A/B testing products and newsletter management.

Marketers using AdRoll’s platform will gain access to userfox’s email lists and customer data sets, including CRM and mobile IDs.

Aaron Bell, AdRoll’s CEO, stated that userfox “stood out” because it's like AdRoll, in that it focuses on offering marketing technology to brands of all sizes. Bell wrote in a company blog post announcing the acquisition that during his first conversation with userfox's Clark, the two "quickly realized that userfox (through email) and AdRoll (through ads) were attacking the same problem from different angles."
