Turner's HLN To Broadcast Twitter Data Cross-Platform

Building on its new effort to target millennials, Turner Broadcasting's HLN news channel has now struck a strategic deal with Twitter.

One of its efforts will be to work together to broadcast “live visualizations” of Twitter data simultaneously across television and digital platforms. Initially, HLN will use Twitter to focus trending segments on “Morning Express with Robin Meade."

Also HLN will work on time-shifted content with Twitter — Tweet DVR — which will have live Tweets from television premieres play alongside digital video and TV replays of the same program.

As many other networks have done, HLN will join the Twitter Amplify program, which allows a network to promote its sponsored video clips on Twitter. HLN will be able to inject news clips fresh from broadcast into Twitter for cross-platform branding.

On the political and election front, HLN and Twitter will create new sponsorship opportunities across TV, digital and social media with #TweetTheVote, which will include special analysis of ‘outside the beltway’ tweets.

“Twitter is at the center of the social circle of what’s trending, topical and talked about,” stated Albie Hecht, executive vice president/general manager of HLN. “As HLN becomes the TV hub of social media newsgathering, collaborating with Twitter will provide us the tools to further be a part of, and report on, the conversation.”
