Rocky Mountain Hi-Tech: Digital Shop MJD Expands To Boulder

San Diego-based MJD understands the importance of location as the digital innovation agency opens its second office, in Boulder, Colorado. “From clients to attitude to how our brand is reflected in the locales we choose," says MJD President Michael Maginnis.

The agency decided on opening a Boulder location for a combination of client's, company culture and talent. “Boulder has a great energy to it, and draws inspiration from its natural surroundings, but there’s also a vibrant technology and business scene,” said Maginnis. The firm counts the region’s Vail Resorts as a client and works  with other outdoor and active lifestyle companies, including eyewear and sports performance equipment and lifestyle manufacturer Oakley, golf equipment maker Titleist, and sports footwear brand Etnies. "We have worked with a few area clients, most notably Vail Resorts and feel there are a lot more active lifestyle brands in the area that fit what we are doing with digital innovation in the retail and lifestyle brands industries," says Maginnis. 

Managing Director Jason Van Peeren, who has relocated from MJD’s San Diego headquarters, will head up this new location, which will initially be based inside Galvanize on Pearl Street, a popular base for entrepreneurs, developers and tech start-ups. "What really sealed the Boulder location was the buzzing technology scene and the positive energy the town has," says Maginnis. "There are start-ups on every block, Google is trying to set up a new campus there, and a major talent pool in CU Boulder. Overall we want tap into the tech scene for new talent to join the MJD team."

The agency is looking to add mobile developers and creative technology leaders to the team. “Where someone chooses to work is a large part of how much they enjoy their work, and we thought offering our employees a choice of near the beach or in the mountains is a pretty good deal,” says Maginnis. 

MJD creates digital experiences and products across web, mobile and experiential platforms for clients that also include Disney, Red Bull, P&G, Grammy Awards, Falken Tire, Stride Rite, Legendary Pictures,  and Qualcomm.
