Maker Tightens Its Relationship With Disney

Maker Studios today was to announce 15 new video projects -- and not surprisingly, given its corporate parentage, said it had been working with Disney Co. units including ESPN, Marvel and ABC’s Lincoln Square Productions to develop new content, according to a press release issued just before its NewFront presentation in New York.

Beginning this summer, Maker and X Games will pair on projects, and Marvel will use Maker to develop original digital content and programs. Maker and Lincoln Square will team on non-fiction projects focusing on cultural and political issues, starting with “American Woman” that presumably will take a deep dive into the impact female voters can have in the upcoming presidential season.

Maker’s new projects include, “Camp,” adopted from James Franco’s “Palo Alto: Stories” and “The Taryn Show,” billed as the world’s first “late night digital experiment in Web culture” hosted by Taryn Southern.

Maker also said it has teamed with Digitas_Lab, to focus on co-creation of content and cross-platform distribution. It also touted an arrangement with MiTu, an online Hispanic video network, on a content deal arranged with Starcom MediaVest’s Liquid Thread, to fund new content deals.

The studio also said it has teamed with Outrigger Media and OpenSlate to launch Maker Select, a proprietary ad solution.
