'Celebrity Family Feud' Jump-Starts ABC Prime-Time

“Celebrity Family Feud” scored a surprisingly big summer series premiere number for ABC, well north of a two rating among 18-49 viewers.

A new prime-time version of the game show at 8 p.m. posted a Nielsen preliminary 2.4 rating 10 share among 18-49 viewers. It also earned top honors among total viewers -- at 8.5 million.

ABC also had another good season premiere at 9 p.m. -- “BattleBots,” which pulled in a 1.9/7 and 5.3 million overall total viewers.

Still, Fox -- with “U.S. Open Golf” -- gave the two reality ABC shows a run for their money, pulling in 1.7 rating/6 share among 18-49 viewers and 7.6 million overall viewers between 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. E.T. “U.S. Open” rose to a strong 2.3 rating in its last half hour.

On the surface, golf looked strong -- up over 50% from last year’s preliminary 1.1 adults 18-49 rating. But the event of a year ago was running against the “NBA Finals.”

NBC offered up original content on Sunday with two “Dateline” episodes, the finale of “A.D. The Bible Continues” and “American Odyssey.” But all that didn’t do much -- just 0.6/2 overall. CBS was in repeat mode on the night.

Fox averaged a 1.7/6, followed by ABC at a 1.4/6; NBC with a 0.6/2; and Univision and CBS each with a 0.5/2.
