Tune Acquires Artisan To Consolidate SDKs

In its third acquisition in a year, mobile marketing platform Tune announced Thursday it was acquiring mobile marketing automation vendor Artisan. The details of the deal have not been disclosed.

The move comes as part of an industry wide effort to consolidate Software Development Kits (SDK) so that marketers don’t need to look at many different dashboards for all their solutions.

Tune has been expanding since 2014, when it acquired MobileDevHQ, allowing marketers to track keyword searches in addition to its other tracking services. MobileDevHQ was rolled together with Tune’s original mobile product MobileAppTracking and Appfuel to launch Tune’s Marketing Console last month.

The Tune Marketing Console will expand with the addition of Artisan’s mobile marketing automation, though Tune says it will continue to work with other automation services if that’s what developers want.

“The answer to current marketing challenges isn’t more data, it's smarter data,” says Dan Koch, head of product and engineering for Artisan, who will be joining Tune as director of mobile marketing automation.

“Integrating Artisan into the TMC means marketers can engage users in every moment of the customer experience, from discovery to download and re-engagement to retention,” he adds.

Nine members of Artisan’s team, who are moving to Seattle, will join Koch at Tune. The company also announced they now employ more than 300 people globally. The expansion and consolidation has drawn Tune into more competitive waters.
