Dish Network Adds Digital Video Device To Up Mobile Storage

Dish Network has added a portable digital video device to its array of TV viewing equipment -- HopperGo -- all to help consumers with limited data storage on smartphones and tablets.

The satellite pay TV provider is selling an on-the-go digital $99 drive can store up to 100 hours of DVR recordings, creating one’s own “private wireless cloud.” HopperGo is not subject to any monthly fees.

The 64 GB rechargeable battery-powered drive gives customers the ability to transfer up to 100 hours of recorded TV shows and movies from a Hopper 3 or Hopper 2 DVR set-top box for portable, offline viewing.

HopperGo can support up to five tablets and smartphones through Dish Anywhere app. No internet connection is needed.

Dish Network says this will help consumers who need have big storage needs on their tablet and smartphone devices, eliminating the need of deleting apps, photos, or other content to free up space.

Dish Network has 13.9 million pay-TV subscribers, including around 600,000 subscribers for its over the top service Sling TV, according to industry estimates.
