Active Interest Media Acquires Yonder App

Active Interest Media (AIM) has bought the outdoor recreation social app Yonder.

Launched in 2013, Yonder is a free platform that lets outdoor enthusiasts share their experiences, adventures and activities with friends and “fellow Yonderers.”

Yonder has sponsored interactive Web experiences with brands and organizations like the U.S Forest Service, The North Face, Burton and Xanterra.

According to a statement from AIM, the company believes Yonder's technology will "accelerate the deployment of AIM’s partner brands into interactive platforms."

Yonder is expected to "improve brand awareness, custom content and aggressive call to action campaigns using hashtags, native content and push notifications."

The Yonder app includes widgets to drive third-party engagement and foster real-time interaction.

"With these powerful Web tools, geo-located and activity-tagged multimedia can be delivered directly to a partner web destination via easy to customize Web widgets," the statement added.

Brand partners would also be able to use destination and experience-specific functions to promote their events, campaigns and retail locations.

"This acquisition is a natural fit with many of our properties, including Backpacker, Ski, Warren Miller, Climbing, National Park Trips and Skiing – and will enable us to interact with an even broader and younger social audience,” stated Kent Ebersole, GM and VP of outdoor group at AIM.

In February, Yonder updated the app and launched BoomView, an expansion of the app’s mapping and connection features. BoomView lets Yonder users view a database of top-ranked users, destinations and experiences for inspiration or recommendations for future outdoor activities.
