The Tokyo headquarters of Dentsu is under investigation by the Tokyo Labor Bureau following the alleged suicide of 24-year-old Matsuri Takahashi. The death is said to be linked to Karoshi, a Japanese cultural trend of being overworked.
Takahashi had been with Dentsu for 9 months and her death last December followed by one month the publication of a study on Karoshi by the Japanese government.
In addition to Dentsu's headquarters in Tokyo, three other agency offices are under investigation as well to determine whether or not they played a role in Takahashi's death.
Dentsu, which just recently agreed to repay clients $2.3 million it over billed, could face criminal charges if found to have encouraged a culture of overworking.
