AIM Acquires IDEA, Diversifies Revenue Streams

Active Interest Media (AIM) today announced it acquired IDEA Health & Fitness Association, a publisher and network of professionals focused on fitness and wellness. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Buying IDEA will help AIM further diversify their revenue streams with the businesses the fitness company brings to the table.

For example, IDEA Health & Fitness Association publishes several print and digital publications, including IDEA Fitness Journal. IDEA’s site, www.ideafit.com, is the most-visited fitness professional site in the world, according to the company.

It also holds several major events a year, including the annual IDEA World Convention. IDEA also has existing partnerships with fitness organizations, such as ACE, Zumba and TRX.

The company’s fitness directory includes over 250,000 fitness professionals.

“We can now offer a clear career path and great content to the millions of fitness enthusiasts AIM reaches through its consumer brands, such as Oxygen, Clean Eating, Yoga Journal and Muscle and Performance,” stated Andy Clurman, president and CEO of AIM.

Peter Davis, CEO of IDEA, added the two companies have talked about the “best way to join forces... for years.” Davis will continue in a leadership role with AIM to oversee the integration of the two companies.

However, the software and technology division of IDEA (ClubConnect and CoursePlus) were not included in this transaction. It will operate under a new brand called Inspire360.

In June, AIM bought the outdoor recreation social app Yonder, a free platform that lets outdoor enthusiasts share their adventures. AIM stated at the time that Yonder's technology will "accelerate the deployment of AIM’s partner brands into interactive platforms."
