Blogging Platforms Continue To Evolve

Going up against Medium and similar services, messaging startup Telegram is launching a long-form publishing platform of its own.

Dubbed Telegraph, the new service doesn’t require users to register for an account.

Though some have declared the age of blogging to be dead, blog-like publishing platforms are on the rise

Last year, for instance, Facebook reimagined its long-neglected Notes service as a platform for reading and writing long-form content. Following suit, Tumblr rolled out support for long-form content and mobile messaging, last year.

But the biggest success in long-form publishing remains Medium, which was created by Twitter co-founder Evan Williams, in 2012. This spring, more than a dozen independent sites migrated to Medium’s publishing platform, including The Awl, Pacific Standard and The Bold Italic.

Bringing its total funding to more than $130 million, Medium raised $50 million in April.
