New roles were added to Southern lifestyle magazine brand Garden & Gun and athlete-focused sports site The Players’ Tribune.

Garden & Gun has hired its first CFO, Condé Nast vet Kevin Donovan. Donovan will be responsible for managing the financial planning of the Garden & Gun brand. He previously spent 24 years at Condé Nast, most recently as executive director of finance and operations for Allure.

Joe Carney will take on the role and work with advertising agencies and brands to create multiplatform content and custom advertising experiences. He will also work with the executive team on The Players’ Tribune business strategy.

Previously, Carney served as VP of sales for Major League Baseball, leading a team that managed sponsorship and media sales across MLB Network, MLB.com and offline channels.

In addition, he worked at National Football League as director of NFL.com media sales to develop the monetization strategy for the site.

Jaymee Messler, president of The Players’ Tribune, stated that Carney will "help develop new and inventive ways to capitalize on our premium content across all platforms as we aggressively look to expand our advertising strategy and drive revenue.”

Carney added his goal is to “develop first-to-market programs for advertising partners that will truly break through.”
