Publishers using Google AdSense can no longer serve pop-up or pop-under ad formats.
Google is “no longer permitting the placement of Google ads on pages that are loaded as a pop-up or pop-under," read Google’s Inside AdSense blog post on Tuesday "Additionally, we do not permit Google ads on any site that contains or triggers pop-unders, regardless of whether Google ads are shown in the pop-unders.”
Google explains that “these ads [do not] provide a good user experience, and therefore are not suitable for Google ads.”
Further, “these policies help... maintain a healthy ads ecosystem that benefits both publishers and advertisers.”
The internet giant has been considering for a while a refinement of its ad policies. It had set a Jan. 10, deadline for beginning to downgrade mobile web pages that used intrusive interstitial ads.
