Atmail, a provider of email hosting solutions, has introduced a plug-in designed to lower email storage costs.

The object storage plug-in is compatible with a variety of cloud storage and cluster file system vendors, the company says.

The product provides de-duplication support; compression support; cache support for bandwidth optimization; and flexible administration in which an email administrator can choose which attachments to upload to cloud storage, based on a number of variables, it adds.

Object storage simplifies file system storage by using a flat list of buckets that store data using unique IDs instead of file names, according to Atmail.

Based in Australia, atmail serves a variety of telecom and hosting providers. It has representatives in the U.S., Europe and India.
