Miami Ad School Exhibits Off-Duty Artwork

Miami Ad School is introducing the Spare Time Gallery, a pop-up gallery featuring the personal artwork of agency, in-house, freelance and student creatives in local markets.

“Creative people are creative all the time, not just during business hours,” says Pippa Seichrist, cofounder, Miami Ad School. The school decided to develop this exhibit as a place to showcase their "after-hours personal artwork, their artistic play and experimentation that often influences the work they do for brands.”

Featured artwork often illustrates the early footprints of award-winning brand campaigns. Some recent well-known examples include artist Kristen Visbal’s “Fearless Girl” sculpture for McCann on behalf of State Street Global Advisors as well as portrait photography and illustration as key storytelling components of Ogilvy & Mather’s “Real Beauty” campaigns for Dove, and illustrations of Energy BBDO’s “The Story of Sarah and Juan” campaign for Wrigley’s Extra Gum.

There is no fee to enter or participate. When organizing each exhibition, Miami Ad School is working with local agencies to identify and select participating artists. The artwork for the inaugural Atlanta show on November 11-12, for instance, was curated by a team consisting of creatives from Ogilvy, VML and Kids II, in addition to Theo Rudnick, curator, Miami Ad School.

There will be four themed group shows planned per year and a second Atlanta exhibition opening February 22, 2018.  The program will travel to other Miami Ad School campuses within its network of 16 locations in 10 countries.

Spare Time participants will also be invited to exhibit at the school’s Wynwood campus during Art Basel Miami Beach 2018.
