Self-Powered IoT Sensors To Be Launched At CES

Self-powered wireless switches and sensors will be unveiled at the coming CES in Las Vegas, according to technology provider EnOcean.

The IoT switches and sensors are based on Bluetooth and the EnOcean wireless standard.

The devices, which don’t require batteries, are essentially maintenance free and can be used for smart homes, LED lighting control and building automation, according to the company.

Various studies project that there will be tens of billions connected things in coming years.

The self-powered sensors can be used in smart lightings, so they can be communicated with via NFC (near field communication.

Prototypes of solar-based sensors for Bluetooth lighting systems, such as a door and window sensor, temperature and moisture sensors and one that senses occupancy.

The feature of self-powering comes from miniaturized energy converters, energy-efficient electronics and wireless technology for open standards.
