CVS, UPS Drones To Fly Medications To Retirement Community

UPS and CVS are teaming to use drones to fly prescription medications from a CVS pharmacy to The Villages in Florida.

The service to the largest retirement community in the U.S. is using Matternet’s M2 drone system run by UPS Flight Forward.

The drone delivery service idea was announced last year with the first drone deliveries of medical prescriptions in Cary, North Carolina, in November 2019.

“Our new drone delivery service will help CVS provide safe and efficient deliveries of medicines to this large retirement community, enabling residents to receive medications without leaving their homes,” states Scott Price, UPS chief strategy and transformation officer. “This is another way we can support our healthcare customers and individuals with innovative solutions.”

The service to The Villages in central Florida is set to begin in May with the potential to expand to include two additional CVS area pharmacies.

The Federal Aviation Administration has given the authority to operate drones through the pandemic.
