The streaming video news network Cheddar has named
Jim Roberts editor in chief, the company announced Tuesday.
Roberts, who was previously executive editor at Mashable, and before that an editor and reporter at The
New York Times and Reuters, will lead the company's newsroom, launching Cheddar Scoops, a unit focused on breaking media and tech news.
Axios first reported the hire Tuesday
morning.
Cheddar, which streams on Facebook, Twitter and connected TV devices, focuses on business and lifestyle news. It will launch a second, general interest news channel called
Cheddar Big News in the coming months.
The hiring of Roberts suggests that the company will ramp up its news-gathering capabilities, complementing its current interview and
conversation-heavy formats.
