Folks who love Captain Morgan, “A Christmas Story” — or both — were offered a once-in-lifetime opportunity on Dec. 13.
The spiced rum brand used its Twitter channel to alert fans that it was offering a “Leg Up Lamp,” priced at a mere $499, for 24 hours only, in Captain Morgan’s online store.
The hitch: Just five of the lamps were available — and they sold out by 8:30 p.m. ET, according to a rep for the brand.
The 4’ 6” lamp — a tongue-in-cheek twist on the infamous leg-shaped, fishnet-clad lamp in “A Christmas Story” (though the movie’s name wasn’t mentioned in the spirit’s promotion) — has a base in the shape of Captain Morgan’s legs, in the character’s signature pose.

The Twitter post featured a gif that turned the lamp on and off.
The promotion was part of an ongoing stream of seasonal hijinks afoot as part of the brand’s #HolidayLikeACaptain campaign.
The posts use humor (like a gif showing “The Captain” wearing the ultimate, electrified ugly sweater) to drive users to click into the online store, or try a festive Captain Morgan cocktail recipe.
