Disney Creates New Business Unit Focused On OTT Offerings

As part of a strategic reorganization, Disney is creating a new business unit focused on the company’s direct-to-consumer video offerings.

The new unit will be led by Kevin Mayer, who has served as Disney’s chief strategy officer since 2015. It will also oversee all global advertising sales for Disney’s media properties, including ABC and ESPN, as well as the company’s international businesses. Mayer will report to Disney CEO Bob Iger.

It will also include BAMTech, which the company acquired from Major League Baseball last year, as well as the soon-to-launch ESPN+ streaming service, the Disney-Branded streaming service set to launch in 2019, and the company’s stake in Hulu.
