48% Plan To Buy A Smart Home Device This Year

While not everyone has a smart home device, the number of people who plan to get one keeps increasing.

Almost half (48%) of U.S. broadband households plan to buy at least one smart home device this year, according to new research from Parks Associates. More than a third (34%) have a strong intention to buy at least one device.

The purchase intent for smart home devices has increased 66% from a year ago, based on the study, comprising a survey of 5,000 U.S. broadband households.

Among the 47% of U.S. broadband households not owning or intending to by any smart home devices, the top reasons are not seeing any benefit to lifestyle (51%), smart home devices are too expensive (41%) and have privacy and security concerns about having smart devices in the home (23%), according to Parks Associates.
