Food chain Chili’s has been hit with a data breach affecting payment card data information, along with other variable on an unspecified number of people.
The chain, which says it learned of the breach on Friday, reported the episode on Monday.
“Based on the details of the issue currently uncovered, we believe that malware was used to gather payment card information including credit or debit card numbers as well as cardholder names from our payment-related systems for the in-store purchases at certain Chili’s restaurants.”
The company adds that it has notified law enforcement, and is working with third-party forensic experts to investigate the breach.
It adds: “We sincerely apologize to those who may have been affected and assure you we are working diligently to resolve this episode.”
