New Amazon Fire TV Cube Lets Consumers Change Channels With Alexa

Amazon is launching a new Alexa-controlled TV device called Fire TV Cube.

The device, available starting on June 21, is a 4K Ultra H, Alexa-powered streaming media player that can control a TV from across the room.

The cube can integrate with a compatible TV, sound bar, audio video receiver and cable or satellite box and can be used to turn a TV on and off, change the volume, switch inputs and change channels, all by voice. For example, a consumer could say “Alexa, tune to ABC.”

“We believe voice makes it easier for customers to control their entertainment systems and watch the TV and movies they care about,” stated Marc Whitten, vice president of Fire TV. “It’s just the beginning. Amazon Fire TV Cube will only get better over time with the Alexa service always getting smarter.”

The Fire TV Cube has eight microphones and advanced beaming technology and is compatible with set-top boxes from Comcast, Dish and DirectTV. The device, which started preorders today, sells for $120 or $90 for Prime members.
