BrightEdge, Searchmetrics Settle Patent Infringement Claim

BrightEdge and Searchmetrics have settled their patent infringement lawsuit after four years in court and a huge amount of undisclosed financial investments.

On Monday the two companies said they dismissed all legal claims between them as a result of a settlement, which resolves legal claims brought between BrightEdge and Searchmetrics concerning the misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition, trade libel and patent infringement -- cases brought before the Superior Court of California and the U.S. Northern District Court of California.

It became effective on July 9, 2018. Settlement terms were not disclosed.

The suit began in 2014 when BrightEdge claimed five patents were infringed upon by Searchmetrics. In January 2018, a California federal court judge ruled in favor of the defendant, Searchmetrics, after a costly and lengthy patent infringement battle against BrightEdge.
