Downdetector, Web Outage Reporting Service, Sold To Ookla: Report

Allestoringen.nl, the Dutch website that tracks email and internet outages under the name Downdetector, has been acquired by Ookla, provider of a network performance monitoring service, according to Telecompaper. Terms were not disclosed.

Founded by Tom Sanders, Downdetector collects data from individuals over social media and forums, and projects outages onto maps, Telecompaper reports. It has been the source of several news stories regarding outages, including those that affected Yahoo Mail earlier in the year.

The company reportedly will continue all of its activities.
