The Orlando Police Department plans a second phase of facial recognition technology testing.

Orlando previously worked with Amazon Web Services to test the online retailer’s Rekognition technology for a six-month pilot program, which ended last year. The second pilot announced by the Orlando Police Department is scheduled over nine months.

The images scanned are only of Orlando police officers who volunteered to participate, with scanning devices at police headquarters and another city facility.

During the pilot, the scanning technology is not planned to be used for investigations of any kind.
