Comcast Lines Up Voice Commands For Super Bowl

Plenty of sports fans may be shouting at their TV’s during the Super Bowl Sunday, but some connected home consumers can shout specific voice commands to enhance their game experience.

Comcast has added some customized features to its Xfinity platform, enabling customers to reach for their X1 voice remote to issue specific Super Bowl commands.

For background on the players, the command “Tom Brady vs. Jared Goff,” “Show me Julian Edelman” or “Show me Rams leaders” will bring the appropriate information to the screen.

For those with connected lighting, the command “Xfinity Home, Go Patriots!” will turn those lights red and blue while “Xfinity Home, Go Rams!” will change them to yellow and blue.

Other football-customized commands trigger additional things as well. For example, saying “Super Bowl” or “NFL” will launch all the pre-game news and post-game highlights.

To prep for halftime entertainment, the appropriate command would be “Show me Maroon Five videos on YouTube.”

For pre-game food prep, the command “Show me wings recipes on YouTube” will launch the relevant videos and for tracking real-time game stats the command “X1 Sports app” will add the stats onto the same screen where the game is playing.

For even more widely connected homes, the command “Xfinity Home, show me the front door camera” will let the user see arriving guests or see when the pizza delivery person is at the door.

No matter who wins, at the end, the appropriate command, at least for some, will be ”Play ‘We Are the Champions’ on Pandora.”

If I had voice command on my TV activated for every AFL (Aussie Rules football) game that my teams plays in, then there wouldn't be one umpire alive!
