M&M's Using Its SBLIII Ad To Intro Chocolate Bars Line

For the first time, M&M’s is using its Super Bowl commercial to introduce a new product: M&M’s Chocolate Bars.

Following a teaser video revealing that Christina Applegate would appear in its Big Game ad this year, the Mars brand has now pre-released the final, 30-second ad that will be aired during the first commercial break after the kickoff.

The ad, from BBDO New York (below), shows Applegate growing increasingly agitated during a drive home from the grocery store, as she’s distracted by the squabbling of her (initially unseen) backseat passengers.

When she threatens to either tear them apart or eat them alive, the troublemakers — who turn out to be animated spokescandies Red, Yellow and Orange, stuck together inside a M&M'S Chocolate Bar — opt for the former.

The Mars brand announced the upcoming launch of the M&M’s Chocolate Bars last September. Now in stores, the bars — which have M&M’s minis embedded throughout — come in milk chocolate, peanut, crispy, almond, and crispy mint flavors.

M&M's brand director Allison Miazga-Bedrick calls the extension “one of the most notable innovations in our brand's history."
