Dunkin' Enlists NHL Bruins Star For Campaign

Dunkin’ has a new TV spot featuring Boston Bruins’ all-star David (“Pasta”) Pastrnak.

The spot, from BBDO New York, debuted during the NHL All-Star Game on Jan. 26. Dunkin’ is the official U.S. coffee, donut and breakfast sandwich of the league.

The effort, which includes broadcast, digital and social, promotes Dunkin’ Cold Brew coffee. The media plan includes both 15- and 30-second versions of the spot running in NHL games airing on NBC and NBC Sports Network, including Tampa Bay vs. NY Rangers on Feb. 2, Boston vs. Washington on Feb. 3 and Boston vs. NY Rangers on Feb. 6.

Digital video will run across NBCsports.com and NHL.com throughout the remainder of the season.

The spot features the player, who has been whistled for tripping, using his two minutes off the ice to refuel with a Dunkin’ Cold Brew coffee -- his regular order ready and waiting thanks to a Dunkin’ crew member and counter conveniently located right in the penalty box. It has the ongoing tagline “Where there’s hockey, there’s Dunkin’.”

Dunkin’ has local partnerships with NHL franchises including the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Nashville Predators, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capital. In December 2015, Dunkin’ became the first official corporate sponsor of the National Women’s Hockey League.

Dunkin’ estimates it serves NHL fans at least 25 million times each month, says Tom Manchester, senior vice president, integrated marketing, Dunkin’ U.S.

"Showing support for the sport at the professional, collegiate and local levels is part of our heritage,” Manchester tells Marketing Daily. “What better player for the starring role than David Pastrnak, an NHL All-Star from our home market’s Boston Bruins and one of the league’s most exciting young players.”
